are bloggers journalists? (week 7)

From my perception, journalists are those who write to disseminate news among people. Writing is their everyday job. While for a blogger, writing is his passion. He writes about his opinions on particular topics. In my opinion, a blogger can be a journalist as he is disseminating news among people as well even though his writings are opinion, observation and research based. BUT, a blogger's freedom to write should be limited to avoid any inaccurate information to be spread out. A blogger should always bare in mind that journalism is a job that requires responsibility. They must know that it is their duty to give people the accurate information about an event. They should not be writing without control about something. Most importantly, they must be responsible for the consequences of their writing. Bloggers can ONLY be considered journalists if they do their work with responsibility as i mentioned above.

I couldn't agree more when you said bloggers blog because of passion while journalist write to disseminate news. But the idea of limiting what bloggers could write is a little discouraging to me. Further more, it is not easy to enforce the law on limiting what can and cannot be blogged about. The readers themselves should be wise enough to determine what is can and cannot be believed.
