MEDIA STEREOTYPES
People around the world are often influenced by things that media portray to us,
sychological effects of stereotyping, particularly its effect on African Americans and women. For example,a study which found that bogus feedback to college students dramatically affected their IQ test performance, and another in which students were either praised as very smart, congratulated on their hard work, or told that they scored high. The media stereotypes can effect others thoughts easily and make the thing to be in a bad way.

MEDIA STEREOTYPES
A stereotype is a commonly held public belief about specific social groups, or types of individuals.(wikipedia) Stereotype that presented in all of the movies was the dependency of women upon men. Male characters always participated in helping a female-character to reach the success. In the movie A League Of Their Own most of the women lived with the thoughts about their husbands who were fighting in the war. What makes this example even more interesting is that one can develop a counter-argument, saying that the fact that in these movies men were helping women to achieve the success was instead a break of stereotype, which represents men as those who achieve high goals, and women as those who help to achieve these goals. If we compare the different ways, in which media depicts helping male and helping female characters, we will see that if men help with a wise advice and with their knowledge, then female helps by cooking and taking care of children. This is yet another stereotype in mass media.

Media Stereotypes (Week 8)
Each and everyone in this world is unique and different. We are too complicated and abstract to be labeled or to be grouped into different types of stereotypes. And it is definitely unfair to brand people because of their skin colour, race or ethnicity.
The media played a major role in shaping the mind and the way of thinking of the people. For example the western media succeeded in portraying the Muslims or the Arabs especially as bomb-makers and terrorists, the Jews as stingy , Singaporeans as ‘kiasu’ (selfish, afraid to lose), and etc.
What causes these stereotypes to actually arise? One of the factors is current situation or significant tragedies for example after the 9-11 incident in the United States there was a sudden influx in movies and TV series showing Arabs/Muslims as the bad guys or terrorist. Before the 9-11 attack, the Westerns will usually make the Russians as the bad guy in a movie because of the Cold War and the involvement of the Soviet Union.
There are also positive stereotypes shown by the media for example the Japanese are always shown as very well cultured, punctual, disciplined and very well-mannered people.

Media Stereotypes
r an example, media always portray Sri Lanka people as a refugee and a war country. This makes most people scared to go Sri Lanka. However, the truth is not all Sri Lankans are refugee. There are still rich people in Sri Lanka. Besides that, media also often portray Africa and India as a poor country. This made me to think India is a poor country until one day I went to India and I realized that India is not a poor country as what media show us. These stereotypes often tend to make people to believe it is true especially to those who don't know the real truth.Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies People

Media stereotypes (week 8)
Ever since I was small, I used to watch many English movies. By watching
those movies, I thought that Americans are people, who are friendly,
generous, and tolerant. but all that assumptions changed when one day I
heard my dad's conversation with his friend. according to him, an American
in his office is very arrogant and not friendly at all. My dad was telling
that the guy thinks that he is so intelligent thus he look down at the
other employees as if they are not good enough. when I heard about it, I
thought that not all Americans are friendly, generous and tolerant. some
of them are in the opposite way. this is one of the media stereotype that
I have experienced.

Are Bloggers Journalists?
Are Bloggers Journalist?
Bloggers is as similar as journalists where their sole purpose is to communicate. However, the writings are treated differently. Bloggers may freely express their feelings, judgement, and opinion while journalists are highly burdened with authority guidelines, ethics, and laws. I believe that it was all started when the society had enough of the conventional journalism that is heavily influenced by politics. That is when people start to look for alternative sources of information and it so happens that the internet comes into use. These days, some bloggers are even more influential than the conventional journalists regardless of their background and credibility on the subject matter. There are many cases where bloggers claimed they should be protected under journalism law after being sued. It is simple to say that, they shall be protected as long as they assume responsibility of their writings and that includes proper research and investigation to avoid inaccuracy which could cost a lot of money. The intellectuality of journalism should be protected. As much as bloggers want to believe that they are journalists, they have a lot more to learn, especially ethics of writing and way of working.

ARE BLOGGERS JOURNALIST??
Journalist is a person who collect information by doing some research and spread all those information as news to the society. Journalist carries a big responsibility on their hand. They have certain limits to follow when they are disseminating news. They must be presenting the information in a formal way. They also have to use correct language with good grammars. Meanwhile bloggers are the one who disseminate news in a different way than a journalist. Bloggers have a lot more freedom to write about what they want. They don't have any conditions to follow. They also can blog in anyway(formal ; informal). Hence in my opinion, bloggers are journalist too but in a different way since both bloggers and journalist functions to disseminate news. The difference is that the responsibility that they carry. Journalist have a big responsibility compared to the blogger who have more freedom to disseminate news.

SOCIAL MEDIA (WEEK 6)
Social media is known as the media that is used to communicate with the society. Media that can be used as a medium to reach people are blogs, broadcast, and video share. Social media affects my life and many people’s life in many ways. For an illustration, nowadays we can see many people very busy socializing through the internet than having a real life conversation with people. The most famous web in the net for socializing is ‘Facebook’. We can clearly see the changes that Facebook had brought into our life in these days. It has been so easy to socialise through net as even a primary school student is having a profile in facebook now. Facebook have also affected my life. I am from Kedah and it is very hard for me to keep in touch with all of my friends if I depend on my handphone 2 communicate with them. Ever since I have an account in facebook, it is easier for me to contact them now. It saves time as well as cost for me.
